A Virginia Beach police officer shot and killed a man while responding to a call reporting a stabbing over the weekend.
Virginia Beach Police Department officials said in a release that officers responded to a home on White Beam Court to find Marques Hasbrouck armed with a crowbar and metal rod.
Police said multiple officers shot Marques Hasbrouck after he refused commands to drop his weapons, and after officers failed to stun him with a Taser.
Marques Hasbrouck, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside the home, a 58-year-old woman was dead and two other people were suffering life-threatening injuries.
The woman found dead inside the home was identified by police as Victoria Hasbrouck of Virginia Beach. The other two injured people were not named in a Sunday release. They were transported to a local hospital in critical condition Saturday night.
No officers reported any injuries. They’ve been placed on leave that police said is “standard in these types of critical incidents.”
“Our hearts are with everyone affected by this tragedy," Police Chief Paul Neudigate said in a release.
"Responding to domestic incidents is one of the most dangerous aspects of our job, with every encounter carrying with it the possibility of danger. These situations are often volatile and unpredictable, as was the case last night. We support our officers, the affected family, and our community as we navigate this difficult time together."
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
After the criminal investigation, police officials said VBPD internal affairs will review the incident for department policy and procedure compliance.
