In June, Governor Ralph Northam shared guidance for phased reopening of Pre-K-12 schools.

Since then, school districts in Hampton Roads have developed their own individual plans for reopening schools.

Here is what they are currently.

Chesapeake

In July, families were given two options for the first semester which runs until January 29, 2021.

The first is called "The On-Campus Continuum," and the second is called "Chesapeake Online."

Starting in mid-September, special education students and students in grades Pre-K through Third that chose the first option were brought back for in-person learning.

In October, additional students who chose this option were brought back to the classroom on a blended model in grades 4-7.

In November, high school students were brought back on a blended model with two days in the classroom and three days at home.

Students who selected "Chesapeake Online" will complete all instruction online for the first semester.

They have the option to reasses their status in December and switch to on-campus instruction for the second semester or remain with the virtual-learning option.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth students will remain in a virtual-learning model for the rest of the first semester.

This includes special education and English Language Learners.

Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach Public Schools will return to an all-virtual learning model until at least Dec. 1.

The school district had previously brought students back in phases over the past three months.

Suffolk

Suffolk Public Schools are doing virtual-learning for the first semester.

Special education students are allowed to attend in-person instruction two days a week.

Newport News

Newport News Public Schools will remain in a virtual learning model until at least January.

You can read the updated reopening plan here.

Hampton

At the beginning of November, Hampton City Schools moved into Phase 2 of their reopening plan.

Parents still have the option of keeping their students in virtual learning.

Under Phase 2, students in Pre-K through third grade, sixth-graders and some special education students are in the classroom on a hybrid model.

The model calls for two days of in-person instruction and three days online.

Norfolk

Norfolk Public Schools are in a fully-virtual learning model currently.

The School Board will discuss reopening plans again at the beginning of December.

You can read the full reopening plan here.

Isle of Wight

In August, parents were given two options for the first semester.

Under the first option, students can return to school on a hybrid learning model with two days of in-person instruction and three days of online learning.

Under the second option, students will continue online for at least the first semester.

Williamsburg & James City County

Williamsburg and James City County Schools will temporarily resume virtual learning for all studets the week after Thanksgiving.

They were in "Path 2" of their reopnening plan, which included some in-person instruction for students in grades Pre-k through third.
