The city of Chesapeake is extending the deadline for people to pay their personal property taxes.
Residents will now have until June 30, instead of the original June 5 deadline.
The City Council voted for the extension after a delay from the city treasurer’s office in mailing out personal property bills.
The changes also come amid fallout with longtime City Treasurer Barbara Carraway.
Earlier this month council members voted to strip some duties, including collecting stormwater fees, from Carraway due to what leaders called a decline in her job performance in recent years.
In a memo to council, City Manager Chris Price said the city's seen an increase in citizen concerns about the treasurer's office and a big drop in employee numbers has further compounded the issues.
"The situation continues to deteriorate and is untenable," Price wrote.
Carraway has defended herself in comments to the media and said the allegations aren’t true.
A city statement this week announcing the tax extension notes that Carraway is an elected official and not under the authority of city leaders.
Due dates for all other types of taxes have not changed.
