Hurricane Dorian has potentially impacted flight operations at Norfolk International Airport. According to Deputy Executive Director Steve Sterling, the airport will maintain normal operations and remain open unless there is major damage to its runways, though this is not expected. The airlines will make the decision to cancel and reschedule flights into Norfolk. Sterling said the most at-risk for cancellation are the late night arrivals tonight and the first flights out tomorrow morning. Those flights are expected to be cancelled. However, the airlines make that call.

Flooding normally is not an issue at the Norfolk Airport, since is located on the highest ground in the city and usually does not see high water. However, access to the airport may be compromised due to street flooding in surrounding neighborhoods. Sterling suggested checking with the airline’s website and related contacts to determine if the flight arrival or departure is still scheduled.
