Children start learning as soon as they’re born, and adults in the home are children's first and most important teacher. As children near the age when they will be entering school, there are many ways parents can help them prepare. WHRO has partnered with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) to help parents in Hampton Roads be sure they have all the information needed to get their children ready for Kindergarten.

As part of the EVMS "Minus 9 to 5" initiative, local school districts have helped launch the "Ready Set Register Hampton Roads" campaign — a push to ensure local children get registered for Kindergarten. Parents can find a collection of resources including a checklist of needed documents and links to specific requirements in their city to help them get their children registered, along with tips to prepare children for the new routine of attending school.
