Pick up your pens and colored pencils! WHRO is currently accepting entries for our annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest. Kindergarten through 5th grade students are invited to write and illustrate their own original stories and submit them.

WHRO has offered the contest since 2009, and it is always a highlight of the year for WHRO Education staff. Each year, we receive between 300 to 400 entries from local children.

Stories can be fact or fiction, poetry or prose, and will be judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of illustrations. A first place and honorable mention winner will be chosen from each grade level.

Entries are judged by an independent panel of judges. Once the winning stories are chosen, the winners and their families will be invited to attend the WHRO Young Storytellers Awards Ceremony, where each child will be honored at a special reception and recorded in the WHRO television studio reading their winning entry. Winning entries are also displayed throughout the hallways of WHRO's Norfolk location.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m.
