One of the great resources that WHRO offers to teachers and families is our free digital media content library, eMediaVA. eMediaVA features tens of thousands of digital learning resources, including videos, games, interactives, images and lesson plans for use in the classroom or at home. The offerings range from Pre-K all the way to professional development and cover a wide variety of topics from science to personal finance. WHRO and the Virginia Department of Education work in partnership with several organizations including NASA, Sesame Workshop and The Chrysler Museum of Art to bring quality SOL-compliant content to all our divisions.

“eMediaVA is a great resource for exploring the history, traditions, and significance of the winter holidays, in addition to relevant and engaging activities, videos, and games to turn your classroom into a winter wonderland this holiday season! eMediaVA’s digital media collection is also filled with educational and entertaining resources to keep students learning over winter break,” says Lindsey Horner, WHRO’s eMediaVA manager.

If you’re a teacher searching for educational or entertaining resources to share with students and parents over winter break, eMediaVA has you covered with distance learning collections. This assortment is categorized by subject in elementary and secondary levels, making it easy to find what content would best fit any student, from Bill Nye to PBS NewsHour. The page updates regularly with new content as resources become available.

Horner also has several recommendations for families who want an educational spin on their holidays. Have students learn about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa with eMediaVA’s Winter Holiday Collection. The Celebrating Winter playlist helps turn a virtual or physical learning space into a holiday haven. Students can also play Grover’s Winter Games where they can ice skate, snowboard and ski all while learning number recognition and patterns.

So whenever you want to spend the day playfully expanding your child’s education, especially during this holiday season, eMediaVA is here to help.
