This year, WHRO Public Media won 11 Telly Awards, 10 Virginia Association of Broadcasters Awards, four American Advertising Awards, three Salute to Excellence Awards from the National Association of Black Journalists, and one Public Media Award—all for outstanding TV and radio productions and marketing promotions. WHRO was also named once again as a Top Workplace in Hampton Roads by Inside Business.
Additionally, we continue to celebrate our 60th anniversary this year. We’ve received so many messages of support and congratulations throughout the year from our members, partners and other organizations throughout the region. As I reflect on this last year, as well as on our history in the region, I’m so proud to be a part of an organization that the community relies on for news, information and entertainment. If you haven’t visited our 60th anniversary web page, you should check it out. You’ll find a bit of the station’s history as well as some fun old photos. Find it at whro.org/60
As we head into the holiday season, we have some great programs lined up for this month. On WHRO TV 15 as well as our radio stations, you can enjoy poignant holiday stories, seasonal music, and uplifting programs like the Call the Midwife Holiday Special, 20 Years of Christmas with the Tabernacle Choir, and The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. You can read about these upcoming shows throughout this guide.
We also have another Downton Abbey marathon coming during the first week of December. On Saturday and Sunday, December 4 & 5, you can watch all of season 4 on WHRO TV 15. Our television and radio membership drives are also taking place in early December. I hope you will join us and consider including WHRO in your holiday gift giving this year. Your additional contribution will help us continue to produce the engaging and educational programming you enjoy. Thank you in advance for your continued support. And from our family to yours, Happy Holidays!
