Picnics, family gatherings, outdoor concerts—hopefully, these next summer months will usher in an increased sense of normalcy in our lives once again. I look forward to enjoying all the things we’ve missed since the start of the pandemic.
One thing we missed last year was the Antiques Roadshow taping in Williamsburg. Producers canceled their on-the-road tapings due to the pandemic, but we just received word that the Williamsburg event has been rescheduled. Producers from Antiques Roadshow will be coming to Williamsburg on September 28. Watch our website in the coming months for details on this exciting event!
As you can see from this month’s cover, our program Ms. Martha Reads recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. Congratulations to everyone involved! This weekly program has been a great way for us to continue providing educational services to local educators. We’re starting to get requests from schools for in-person visits from our Literacy Van to resume, and I know our entire education team is really excited about getting back out in the community.
In the midst of all that has changed as a result of the pandemic, one thing that has not changed is the amount of community support we’ve seen from our members. We are grateful for supporters like you who remain a valued, trusted resource we can rely on.
Members support us in so many ways, and one way in particular is one I’d like to highlight. Did you know that you can support WHRO Public Media by donating an old car, truck, boat, RV or other vehicle? It’s a program that many have taken advantage of because it relieves them of the hassle of selling an old vehicle—even one that no longer runs—and each vehicle donation helps WHRO Public Media provide viewers and listeners with creative, engaging, and informative programs. Visit our website to learn more about this unique way to support public media in Eastern Virginia.
Another way to support the news and arts content you love is to tune in to our television membership drive this month. We have an exciting lineup of programs for you including a marathon of Downton Abbey Season Two, Ken Burns: Baseball, and a number of concerts featuring the music of Wynonna Judd, Ella Fitzgerald, John Denver, Andrea Bocelli, and Mick Fleetwood and friends. I hope you will join us for these great shows and continue to support the content that you love. Without you, we would not be able to continue all the work we do. Thank you for your support!
