Internship Opportunities

WHRO offers a variety of non-paid internship opportunities designed to provide students with knowledge and practical experience in the field of public media.

The internship allows individuals an opportunity to gain practical experience in a career setting. These experiences can allow them to combine their educational pursuits with day-to-day operations of the telecommunications industry.

To be eligible, interns must be currently enrolled in a high school, college or university or similar curriculum to which the internship applies. Interns must be receiving academic credit for their internship at their educational institution. Interns will not receive any type of compensation for participation in the program.

WHRO reserves the right to cancel an internship for poor performance and/or attendance.

Internships are offered throughout the year to coincide with the typical academic calendar. Internships range from 15-40 hours per week, depending upon the needs of the intern and their assigned department.

The Internship Application Process

The availability of internships is based on departmental needs, and vary from semester to semester. The placement process, described below, is selective to ensure that each intern gets the most out of their experience.

  • Applicant will submit a completed application via the online form. This includes uploading a cover letter and resume.
  • Each application will be reviewed by the department manager. If selected, an informal interview will be scheduled with the applicant to discuss career interest, experience, availability, internship requirements, and responsibilities.
  • Applicants not selected for placement will receive an email notifying them.

When to Apply

Student internships will be held per semester

  • Fall Semester (Sept – Dec) - applications encouraged between July 1 – Aug 15
  • Spring Semester (Jan – May) - applications encouraged between Oct 1 – Nov 15
  • Summer Semester (May – Aug) - applications encouraged between March 1 – April 15
