Virginia Beach public schools will return to an all-virtual learning schedule Tuesday.
That’s after Virginia reported a record-high of 2,677 new coronavirus cases on Monday.
599 cases were in Virginia’s eastern region, pushing the seven-day average there to around 280.
The school system has used two metrics – the number of new cases each day and the percent of positive cases – to decide when it is safe to send students back to school.
Anything over 270 falls in what the school district considers the “red zone.”
Superintendent Aaron Spence said in a Zoom conference Monday that they will remain all-online until at least Dec. 1.
“We wanted to make sure that families could plan with a little bit of consistency, and since Thanksgiving is about a week and a half away, we felt we would just push pause until we get to Thanksgiving,” he said.
The school system had just made the decision to send older students back to in-person learning last Thursday.
