What a beautiful collection of ingredients, n'est-ce pas? The beautiful fig is in season and we must take advantage! I have been scurrying across the road, harvesting from our neighbors tree before the Ghent squirrels take their share.
The figs delicate sweetness reminds me of something the ancient Gods would eat.... perhaps I shall sit in a toga today and snack away. All I need is someone to feed them to me....and fan me.
Recipe (ingredients per plate, multiply as needed)
- 2 pieces prosciutto
- 1 thick cut round of soft goat cheese (they have a good one at Trader Joe’s)
- 2 fresh figs, halved
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 1 sprig of thyme
- cracked pepper and salt, to taste
- Remove the leaves from the sprig of thyme
- Combine with honey and microwave for 20 seconds (should be hot)
- Arrange all ingredients on plate as desired
Alisa von Dobeneck: Travel is like a virus. Once it's in the blood, all you can do is plan your next escape to Timbuktu. I come by my obsession with suitcases and airport lounges honestly, with a Scottish mum who shipped off to Africa at 19 and a German dad who spent time camping in the Middle East.
A love of food and cooking is all part of the journey. No one ever watches their home videos; they chat about an amazing bowl of pho they had for a dollar in a Vietnamese market or the best white they had in a French cellar. The Curious Tastebud is my collection of foodie memories, of places near and dear to me, as well as nibbles from places I long to go. All recipes are easy to prepare, approachable in pricing, and dinner party friendly.
