When Davis’ mother told her three sons that their father boxed when he was younger, they all decided to give the rare sport a try. Little did they know, it would change their lives.

On Another View, Producer Lisa Godley interviewed the young boxer about his outstanding skill and where it has taken him.

USA Boxing ranks KeyShawn Davis as the 2nd best junior bantamweight boxer in the country. He holds five national titles and doesn’t plan to stop there.
Davis says what he likes most about the sport is the competition. The sport has taken him all over the country, most recently, Reno - where he won four out of five bouts against the 2015 Junior World Champion, Mark Castor.

“What made it hard was, first of all, he was a crowd favorite. A lot of officials and judges knew him and also he is a great fighter. Basically, I was fighting the judges, the crowd, and him. So that was what made it hard. I just had to tune everything out to do what I had to do.”

In the end of the competition, Castro went home with the youth men’s champion bantamweight title in a 2 to 1 split decision. Davis who was surprised at the match turnout says this only motivated him to fight harder.

Davis has taken every opportunity he has to grow. This past summer he worked with Olympic athletes and coaches at a training camp with America’s best amateur boxers. As they prepared for the 2016 summer games, KeyShawn prepared for something great himself; the 2020 Olympics.

Even though Davis is focused on his Olympic goal and continuing to grow as a boxer, he tells Lisa he still has concerns as a young teenager. Those being, head injuries and managing his money so that he is stable after the sport. “After I win the Olympics in 2020, I’m going to go professional, and see how far I can go. Then, I want to open my own gym and be a boxing coach.”

Winning is no longer a surprise to the Davis family. His older brother Kelvin and younger brother Keyon both hold boxing titles, continuing the family champion tradition.
