Congratulations to WHRV host and musician Jae Sinnett who was selected as one of the 7th Annual African American Creative Community Series (AACCS) Distinguished Award Honorees - Class of 2022.

The awards honor accomplishments of local and Hampton Roads-connected African American and diverse community educators, entrepreneurs, advocates, activists and community icons who are “servant leaders" and trailblazers in their respective careers and special interests advocacy, The awards seek to celebrate people who are making a difference in the lives of others. Over the last seven years, they’ve honored hundreds of community leaders in Hampton Roads.

Dr. Tonya M. Shell, AACCS executive director, founded the organization and partners with the Multicultural Diversity Committee at the Norfolk Public Library. Shell founded the organization initially as a tribute to local filmmakers and cinematic artists in 2014 through creative collaboration with filmmaker / director Russ Fulmore and cinematographer Darnell Evans. The program changed its direction and focus with expanding various categories and content in 2016. Shell changed the name of the organization to African American Creative Community Series.

“Our organization and vision is devoted to ensuring that all honorees selected annually are honored as a reflection of their work and their worth with service provided especially to our underrepresented communites,” says a statement on the AACCS Facebook page.
