Tune in for A Local Touch – Music With a Virginia Connection as we present Steven Melillo’s soundtrack to ‘Dwegons and Leprechauns;’ the Berlioz ‘Symphonie Fantastique’ with former Virginia Symphony maestro Richard Williams leading the London Symphony; and JoAnn Falletta conducting a trio of treats: Paul Dukas’ ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,’ Suite from ‘The Soldier’s Tale’ by Igor Stravinsky, and a nod to Victor Hugo’s famous hunchback with the Intermezzo from Franz Schmidt’s opera ‘Notre Dame.’ Treat yourself to three hours of goodies this Wednesday evening at 9:00 on WHRO FM.


Show Tune Cafe - Halloween Episode

Just in time for Halloween, WHRO FM will provide some fun, spooky tunes. Show Tune Cafe celebrates the best in classic musical theatre every Friday at noon on WHRO FM. On Friday, October 29, a special Halloween episode will feature melodies from some of Broadway’s greatest villains, including a demon barber, demented dentist, lonely farmhand, and murderous spider woman.

On Halloween afternoon, enjoy some favorite treats (no tricks): Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Dukas; Mussorgsky’s ‘St. John’s Night on the Bare Mountain (original version); Paganini’s ‘The Witches;’ Geoffrey Toye’s ‘The Haunted Ballroom;’ MacDowell’s ‘Fireside Tales;’ the Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique; Kerry Turner’s ‘Ghosts of Dublin;’ and Fran Lhotka’s ballet ‘The Devil in the Village.’ For Halloween night from 10 p.m. to midnight, it’s ‘Halloween at the Movies.’ We’ll have Bernard Herrmann’s music for ‘The Devil and Daniel Webster;’ Wojciech Kilar’s score for ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula;’ Hans Salter’s music for ‘The House of Frankenstein;’ and Hugo Friedhofer’s suite from ‘The Lodger’ (Jack the Ripper). Popcorn not included.
