Wednesday, July 4, 2018, 8:00 - 9:30 p.m.

Celebrate American history and culture in a vibrant explosion of sound and color with A Capitol Fourth, a Fourth of July party like no other.

John Stamos hosts the patriotic extravaganza, featuring in concert performances by legendary American artists Jimmy Buffett, the Beach Boys, and the Temptations. Joining them in the festivities will be Grammy Award-winning acapella group Pentatonix, country stars Luke Combs and Lauren Alaina, one of the best-selling gospel artists of all time, CeCe Winans, Violinist Joshua Bell, and the National Symphony Orchestra, among others. This talented cast of musicians complements one of the greatest fireworks displays in America, right in Washington D.C.

The oldest live television tradition for the Fourth of July, A Capitol Fourth is broadcasted live from the U.S. Capitol’s West Lawn by PBS, and has historically featured some of America’s most prominent musicians celebrating our country’s anniversary. First broadcast in 1981, the event has grown to be one of PBS’s signature events. In addition to being broadcast on PBS, the concert can be seen by troops around the world on the American Forces network, and can be heard live on NPR member stations. The concert will also be live-streamed online on PBS, YouTube, and Facebook.

A Capitol Fourth celebrates freedom, independence, and those who fought for both. The concert will also feature a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” dedicated to American troops and veterans, performed by Grammy Award-winning soprano Renée Fleming. The concert will also pay tribute to the culture-shaping careers of The Beach Boys, who will be honored as recipients of A Capitol Fourth’s National Artistic Achievement Award during the show.

The concert kicks off on – when else -  July 4th, 2018. The broadcast can be seen live on WHRO beginning at 8:00 PM ET and concludes with the traditional playing of Tachikovsky’s “1812 Overture” featuring live cannon fire provided by the U.S. Army Presidential Salute Battery. The broadcast concludes at 9:30 PM ET.
