The world was met with a tragic loss when George Harrison, lead guitarist and vocalist of The Beatles, passed away on Nov. 29, 2001. Exactly a year later, widow Olivia Harrison and long-time friend Eric Clapton organized a tribute to Harrison on the one-year anniversary on his passing. In this special event, his closest friends honor his memory the only way they knew how — by playing his music. The tribute concert featured his songs and the music he loved, with performances by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Jools Holland, Jeff Lynne, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Dhani Harrison and many more.  Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the film was directed by David Leland and produced by Ray Cooper, Olivia Harrison and Jon Kamen. The proceeds from the sale of Concert for George products went to The Material World Charitable Foundation, which was founded by George in 1973. Available for the first time in high-definition, Concert for George will air on Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m. on WHRO.

The first half of the show gives insight into George's spiritual identity. Anoushka Shankar and a 16-piece orchestra of Indian musicians perform "Arpan," a special composition by her father and Harrison's mentor, Ravi Shankar. The second half features a memorable experience from members of the Monty Python team performing some of Harrison's favorite skits and includes a surprise guest. This performance pays tribute to Harrison's well-known sense of humor. Throughout the rest of the evening, Clapton and friends perform their hearts out by singing Harrison's songs. The performances feature musicians that Harrison worked with over his career, each performing his music in honor of their beloved friend.
