Saturday, May 19, 4:00-9:00 a.m.

The royal wedding is almost here! Tune in for the big day at Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19.

Breaking Away From Tradition:

The wedding is taking place on a Saturday, which deviates from the tradition of royal marriages occuring during the week. The bride is not only a "commoner" but she is of biracial descent and is a divorcee. In the past, many royal monarchs have had to wed someone of royal blood and marrying someone who had been married before was seen as scandalous. Previously, Queen Elizabeth II's uncle, Edward VII, abdicated his throne in 1936 in order to marry a commoner and three time divorcee. The Queen's sister also had to choose between love and respecting the monarchy, when she started seeing a married military man. She chose the monarchy over love. Times have changed. The Queen gave her blessing to both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, much to the public's surprise. Another tradition to note is both the type of wedding gifts given to the royal couple as well as who is invited. Normally, the couple is supposed to invite dignitaries and other political world leaders, however the couple opted host a small wedding, about 600 guests and not invite any political figures. The couple also announced that instead of traditional wedding presents they would like the wedding guests to donate to chairites of the couple's choice.

However, not every unspoken rule in the royal wedding is being broken. Markle has deleted all her social media accounts, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, in compliance with the royal rules. She is also getting married at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The wedding party will consist of close family and friends, with the ring bearer and flower girl as Princess Kate Middleton's children.
