BurgQuest will include panels, demonstrations and performances related to tabletop games.

The first BurgQuest festival features tabletop, board and role-playing games.

Williamsburg’s first tabletop game festival will focus on various forms of gaming, with special emphasis on all things tabletop, role-playing and board games.

Held at the Woodlands Conference Center, attendees will have access to the BurgQuest free-play library, which includes hundreds of different games for fans to experience.

“We wanted it so people can come in, choose from a library of hundreds of games, decide what they want to play, check them out, and play with friends or make new friends,” Adam said.

The festival will also include a marketplace where attendees can buy new tabletop games, crafts, or memorabilia. Tap and Roll, a local tabletop store in Williamsburg, will have its own booth selling items.

“Friends will meet up at the festival and play games that they’re overdue to play, whether they check them out at the library or buy them from the marketplace,” said organizer Adam Stackhouse.

New games and demonstrations will be showcased at the festival, giving attendees the first look at upcoming titles.

“One thing that’s uniquely Williamsburg and exciting is the presence of Flag Bearer Games, who will showcase their title Nation & Cannons, a new role-playing game that fans can learn more about,” Stackhouse said.

Special guests – including celebrities – will make appearances and the Triforce Quartet, which plays string arrangements of video game songs, will perform.

Richmond’s largest Dungeons & Dragons community, Goblins and Growlers, will also be on hand, Stackhouse said.

BurgQuest will present a wide range of panels on all subjects related to fantasy and games, including educational sessions for new players and tips from professionals on how to improve the gaming experience.

But the priority is reaching people familiar with gaming while inviting newcomes to try out the experience, Stackhouse said. Private game masters will be available to teach groups how to play popular games like Dungeons & Dragons.

“If you’ve always wanted to play Dungeons & Dragons but were too intimidated, you can book a session at BurgQuest,” Stackhouse said.

BurgQuest is one of the new events that is part of Williamsburg’s initiative with AVAdventures Production to host more events.

AVAdventures Production plans and runs the events, with financial support from the city. AVAdventures Production also ran the Last Word Comedy Festival and Virginia Cat Festival.

BurgQuest will be Sept. 20-22 at Woodlands Conference Center in Williamsburg. For information on festival passes, visit Burgquest online.
