Join us this Saturday at 1 p.m., for the live broadcast premiere of “Moby-Dick,” a riveting opera by composer Jake Heggie, with an intriguing libretto by Gene Scheer, inspired by Herman Melville's immortal classic. This thrilling work plunges into life and death aboard the whaling ship Pequod, driven by Captain Ahab's obsessive thirst for the great white whale.
In this strong performance, tenor Brandon Jovanovich plays Captain Ahab, whose thirst for revenge against the whale threatens to destroy everything. Tenor Stephen Costello sings Greenhorn, the new sailor who witnesses the horrendous undoing of the crew, while baritone Peter Mattei is the first mate, Starbuck, the voice of reason amidst the madness.
The cast also includes Suffolk native Ryan Speedo Green as the harpooner Queequeg, Janai Brugger as the cabin boy Pip, and Malcolm MacKenzie and William Burden as the officers Stubb and Flask. The Met Opera Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of Maestro Karen Kamensek, bring Heggie’s dynamic score to life in this unforgettable production.
