This Just In! New Classical Releases await you

This Saturday at 8:00 p.m., tune in to WHRO-FM to discover the latest releases from major classical music labels. We have a wonderful selection of new interpretations and unique pieces you won't want to miss on “This Just In,” with your favorite host Raymond Jones.

From the German label CPO, we present a great 19th-century oratorio by Swiss-German composer Joachim Raff titled “World End’s – Judgement – New World”, which tells the story of the Apocalypse as depicted in the vision of St. John. This work has been rarely performed until recent years. The performance Raymond Jones brings you tonight is one of the few recent interpretations, featuring the Gewandhaus Chor and Camerata Lipsiensis, conducted by Gregor Meyer.

From the British label Chandos, we have the album “Welcome Joy: A Celebration of Women’s Voices,” released last year. Raymond Jones has selected the piece “Lux Aeterna” by British composer Olivia Sparkhall, performed by Corvus Consort, conducted by Freddie Crowley, with harpist Louise Thomson.

We’ll close the evening with an intense performance of Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8. Argentine maestro Carlos Païta led the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in 1982, delivering a performance with marked contrasts, powerful timpani, and striking brass entries. Now, the French label Palais des Degustateurs re-releases this recording, allowing new audiences to appreciate Païta’s unique vision of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8.

Check out three hours of new classical releases this and every Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, or online. This Just In!
