Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, all three of them, have been blasting their unique interpretation of rural country blues for almost twenty years and the new album “Honeysuckle” is more acoustic than previous albums but no less muscular.
Says Reverend Peyton “This record is a bit of a return to my roots. It’s the most acoustic record we’ve made in years — vintage microphones, vintage guitars, vintage recording gear, and a lot of me and my National guitar."
The band is made up of Peyton’s wife Breezy on the washboard and background vocals and Jacob Powell doing the rest of the percussion. They collaborate with the McCrary Sisters on a gospel song, Dolton Crawford of The Dead South on banjo and Billy Branch playing harmonica on an old Blind Lemon Jefferson song.
Anchored by Reverend Peyton’s huge, booming voice, Honeysuckle is as raw as raw can be. It’s the kind of gritty blues that pays tribute to the past while reveling in the here and now.
