Conducted by Leonard Bernstein in 1964, Verdi's “Falstaff” is the opera selected by the Metropolitan Opera’s current Music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as a tribute to the legendary Leonard Bernstein. This work, based on Shakespeare's “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” marked Bernstein's debut at the Met that same season with this comic masterpiece.
The performance features Anselmo Colzani in the title role of Sir John Falstaff, with Gabriella Tucci as Alice, one of the merry wives of Windsor whom Falstaff attempts to seduce. Joining them are Regina Resnik as the clever Mistress Quickly, Mario Sereni as Ford, Alice’s jealous husband, and Judith Raskin and Luigi Alva as the young lovers, Nannetta and Fenton.
Don’t miss this historic broadcast of “Falstaff” this Saturday at 1:00 p.m., the first-ever rebroadcast of this landmark performance by the Met—one of the only two productions Leonard Bernstein conducted with the company. Tune in on 90.3 FM or listen online through your smart device or Media Player.
