Out of the Box Album of the Week--Larkin Poe--Bloom

Larkin Poe is a duo of sisters who have won two Grammy awards for best contemporary blues albums for their last two releases and they continue their southern roots rock ways with their latest album, “Bloom.” The songs burst with energy using stinging guitar work and sibling harmonies.

Rebecca and Megan Lovell make up the group with instrumental help from their producer Tyler Bryant as they blend Americana, blues and southern rock, using Megan’s lap steel guitar to merge perfectly with Rebecca’s lead guitar. The songs draw influences from blues legends like Furry Lewis and Elizabeth Cotton and there’s even a song that's crafted to be a tribute to the another pair of siblings, The Everly Brothers.

Rebecca says “Bloom is about finding oneself amidst the noise of the world, about wholeheartedly embracing the flaws and idiosyncrasies that make us real,” This emphasis on personal growth and resilience forms the emotional bonds of the record, allowing it to be made up of universal themes.

With songs about breaking free of societal expectations, the Lovell sisters remain grounded in their heritage and “Bloom” is evidence that we’ll continue to experience Larkin Poe's growth for years to come.
