David Gray is an old school singer-songwriter and on his 13th album “Dear Life” his voice effortlessly conveys a sense of wisdom about the hard to imagine forces that shape our lives.
Says Gray ” This record is about honoring the beauty in life while reckoning with its contradictions, if you create something meaningful, maybe something magical will come back in return.”
It’s been over 25 years since his break-thru album “White Ladder” and he says that after touring for it’s 20th anniversary he experienced a burst of creativity that led to the songs on this album. His daughter Florence contributes backing vocals and he collaborates with newcomer Talia Rae on one of the songs.
Reflecting life’s complexities, the songs on “Dear Life” veer from intricate to subtly simple arrangements as Gray offers catharsis through his deeply personal yet relatable lyrics. His sense of wonder about love and mortality is compelling.
