Christmas is Near... on the Highway

This week, the Highway gears up for all things Christmas with music by James Taylor, Kasey Chambers, Chris Isaak and, captured live in the studio, (almost local- now she lives in Texas) Narissa Bond and her lovely rendition of This Christmas. Narissa traditionally kicks off our annual Sunday before Christmas Program which airs next Sunday beginning at 6 PM. We'll also hear music from Eastern Shore Emerging Artist Forest Fylnn who will also be featured next week and a set celebrating the Winter Solstice, with music from our own Tret Fure, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Kyle Carey, all heralding the longest night of the year as we celebrate the arrival of winter, and the return to the light. Tune in for a seasonal earful on the Highway. Sunday night at 9 on WHRV

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
