The Metropolitan Opera’s 2024-25 Saturday matinee broadcasts continue on December 14 with the network premiere of “Grounded,” a powerful opera by Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori, with a libretto by George Brant. Based on Brant’s acclaimed play, “Grounded” explores the emotional and ethical challenges faced by Jess, an ace fighter pilot who transitions to becoming a drone operator. This October 19, 2024 performance stars American mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo in the role of Jess, delivering a stunning, tour-de-force performance.
The cast also includes tenor Ben Bliss as Jess's supportive husband, Eric, alongside Ellie Dehn, Kyle Miller, and Greer Grimsley. Under the baton of Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Met Orchestra and Chorus bring Tesori's vibrant score to life in this thought-provoking production.
