Classic Bluegrass is a staple of Sunday nights on WHRV and this week, Red Allen is featured. Allen’s piercing tenor performances helped to establish him as a true veteran of the genre. Allen first came to the public’s attention 1956, when he joined the Osborne Brothers to fill out one of the most influential vocal trios in the history of country music. Allen later teamed with Frank Wakefield, J D Crowe, and Don Reno in a career that spanned 45 years. He is credited with helping Northern Virginia/ Washington DC to become a hub for fans of Bluegrass. Also featured this week are some of the great female voices in the music including, Lynne Morris, Laurie Lewis, and Amanda Smith. It’s a full two hours of solid traditional Bluegrass. Sunday night at 7 on WHRV.
