Join Raymond Jones this Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM for another captivating edition of A Local Touch: Music with a Virginia Connection, where the music is carefully selected to highlight compositions and performances tied to our region.

BHM local touch

This week, we journey through a rich variety of works starting with Elliott Carter's early ballet “Pocahontas.” Based on Virginia's famous Native American figure, this composition is brought to life by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and conducted by Gil Rose.

Next, the spotlight turns to JoAnn Falletta, who is currently in town conducting the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. We’ll feature her collaboration with cellist Paul Tobias in a stunning performance of Samuel Barber’s Cello Concerto.

Then, experience a remarkable rendition of Bach’s Concerto for Three Harpsichords, performed by the Norfolk Chamber Consort under the baton of Andrey Kasparov. This Baroque gem showcases the vibrant chamber music scene in our region.

Finally, the program concludes with a selection from the Heifetz On Air series, recorded in Staunton. This week’s feature is “A Night at the Opera.” The grandest music from the greatest operas rings out on the Heifetz stage in the form of fantasies, transcriptions, arrangements, and more, performed by the Heifetz Institute's string players.
