Join Raymond Jones this Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. on This Just In as he highlights some of the most exciting recent classical music recordings. The program opens with Rochelle Sennet’s elegant rendition of Bach’s French Suite No. 3, from her 2024 album “Bach to Black III,” the third installment in her acclaimed series.

We’ll also enjoy the Emerson String Quartet performing Brahms’ String Quartet No. 2 in A minor from their 2023 compilation album.

Next on the program is Bright Sheng’s “Black Swan,” an orchestration of Brahms’ Intermezzo in A, Op. 118, No. 2, from the 2024 release “Brahms: Reimagined Orchestrations.” The Kansas City Symphony, conducted by Michael Stern, breathes new life into Brahms’ original piano work.

For symphony lovers, Klaus Mäkelä leads the Oslo Philharmonic in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6 in b Minor, from his album “Shostakovich Symphonies 4, 5 & 6,” released just a few months ago. Mäkelä’s fresh and dynamic approach to these masterpieces has quickly made this recording a standout among Shostakovich collections.

Lastly, we’ll hear Roberto Gerhard’s orchestral interpretation of “Don Quixote,” performed by the BBC Philharmonic and conducted by Spanish Maestro Juanjo Mena. This track comes from “Gerhard: The Complete Symphonies,” released by Chandos in the summer of 2024, a landmark recording that showcases Gerhard’s unique contribution to 20th-century music.

Tune in this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM, 90.3, or listen online, to explore these exciting new releases.
