BHM local touch

The evening’s highlight is Opera in Williamsburg’s production of “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat), a lively operetta by Johann Strauss the Younger, known as the “Waltz King.” Recorded at Crosswalk in Williamsburg, VA, on September 11, 2023, this performance is a treat for opera lovers. A comedic tale of love, revenge, and forgiveness, “Die Fledermaus” is known for its witty libretto, sparkling music, and colorful characters. And how does the bat come into it? Well, you’ll have to listen and find out! And here is a special treat for our audience: if you can’t get enough of it, be sure to catch the televised performance this Friday evening at 10:00 on WHRO TV 15.

But that’s not all. The program also features the Hampton Roads-based ensemble The Itinerant Band with selections from their album “The Road Out of Town.” Known for their authentic and lively renditions of traditional music, the Tidewater-based ensemble brings a touch of local flavor that is sure to delight listeners.

Rounding out the evening, the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band, stationed at Langley Air Force Base, will perform Percy Grainger’s iconic “Lincolnshire Posey.” This cherished wind band piece, inspired by English folk songs, is a testament to the ensemble’s extraordinary talent and dedication.
