This Saturday at 8:00 PM, join Raymond Jones on WHRO-FM for This Just In, a musical road trip that takes you on a journey through diverse landscapes and cultures, all through the lens of new classical music releases.
Your journey begins in the Appalachian Mountains with Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring,” performed by the Dallas Chamber Symphony. This quintessentially American ballet captures the spirit and simplicity of rural life, setting the stage for your musical adventure.
From the Appalachians, you’ll be transported to the Middle East, as seen through the eyes and ears of several European composers. Frederick Delius’s incidental music for James Elroy Flecker’s “Hassan,” André Caplet’s “Persian Suite,” and Vincent d’Indy’s “Istar” create vivid soundscapes evoking the allure and mystery that 19th-century Europeans often associated with Eastern cultures.
Returning to Europe, we will stop in Leipzig, Germany, with Clara Schumann’s intimate and expressive Three Romances for Oboe and Piano, and in Vienna for Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 16, the last major work he composed.
Don’t miss this three-hour exploration of new classical releases on This Just In, this Saturday at 8:00 PM on WHRO-FM 90.3 or online.
