Who doesn't know the legend of Don Juan? A scoundrel, halfway between hero and villain, characterized by a marked weakness for women…
In our next opera session, this Saturday, July 6, WHRO-FM presents Mozart's “Don Giovanni”, an adaptation of the Don Juan mythos that the Austrian composer wrote for the National Theater of Prague.
Lovers of the genre are invited to travel to the Lille Opera House to enjoy this production featuring Timothy Murray as the licentious nobleman Don Giovanni, alongside James Platt as the Commendatore and Emőke Baráth as his daughter Donna Anna. Emmanuelle Haïm leads the Lille Opera Chorus and Le Concert d’Astrée in this timeless tale of seduction and retribution.
As the curtains rise, audiences will be transported to the 17th-century streets of Seville where Donna Anna is fighting for her virtue with Don Giovanni. By the opera’s end, he is ultimately forced to confront the ghost of a man he killed, and gets his just reward in a famously chilling scene.
