The last bastion of slavery in the United States was in the State of Texas. On June 19, 1865, 250,000 enslaved people there were declared freed by the United States army...a full three years after enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation. The newly freed slaves called the day Juneteenth..a combination of the month and day of freedom. On this edition of Another View, we celebrate this major milestone in American History. History, storytellers, and food trucks, with Lisa Godley live from the WHRO lot, all made for a memorable Another View broadcast on a glorious June day.
