Out of the Box Album of the Week--Kim Richey--Every New Beginning

Kim Richey writes songs that stand the test of time. Her tenth album “Every New Beginning” features songs that she has co-written with a variety of songwriters over the five years since her last release. The songs tell of what it’s like to be in or out of love.

Working with multi-instumentalist and producer Doug Lancio, most of the songs are about moving on, whether from a relationship, childhood or a particular place. The songs where mostly recorded during the same sessions with one exception, a track she used the original demo for because she felt they couldn’t do better than the original recording.

Richey writes a few songs with Aaron Lee Tasjan, one of which is about a mini-bike rider who she never met but who loudly rode through her neighborhood during the pandemic.

The album’s songs feel like a journey, always in motion until the final song that finds a stopping point. A place that can serve, as the title suggests, a place to dwell before starting all over again.
