Rosie’s Gaming Emporium in Hampton will expand to 24-hour, 7-days-a-week operation after a unanimous vote Wednesday night by Hampton City Council.
Colonial Downs Group, the company that operates Rosie’s, applied to extend the gambling parlor’s hours after Rivers Casino in Portsmouth opened last year. That casino already runs 24/7.
It’s not clear whether Rivers Casino has cost Rosie’s money. Representatives from Rosie’s and Colonial Downs did not respond to requests for comment.
Council has already expanded the gambling parlor’s hours once before. In early 2021, owners asked to extend the night hours from a 2 a.m. closing to 4 a.m. to be consistent with other Rosie’s franchise locations. Council also granted an application for live entertainment on the premises in February 2022.
The approval Wednesday night carried the same conditions as the original permit for Rosie’s. It also asked for an updated security plan for the venue since it’ll now be open all night, as well as a yearly police audit to ensure the casino’s compliance.
According to Colonial Downs paperwork submitted to the city, Rosie’s locations in Dumfries and Richmond are also asking their cities to let them run games 24/7.
