Join us on Monday, October 9, at noon on WHRV FM for a special broadcast. Education Matters is a live, call-in program featuring local school superintendents. The guest superintendents will discuss timely topics in education and welcome questions from the audience.
WHRO Public Media is unique in that it is owned and operated by 21 Virginia school districts. Education Matters provides the opportunity to bring together school superintendents with listeners to discuss the issues that affect the region’s students and parents. The program will be hosted by WHRV's Doug Boynton, the award-winning anchor of All Things Considered. It will be produced by Dr. Barry Graham, whose career spanned over 30 years in the Virginia School System prior to pursuing radio full-time. Audio engineer Jordan Christie will provide audio support.
Engaging and unscripted, the live format of Education Matters offers an authentic and interactive dialogue. Not only does Boynton challenge and explore the viewpoints of his guests, but listeners also have the unique opportunity to voice their questions, directly influencing the direction of the conversation, explained Chuck Doud, senior director of Audio Content and Audience Strategy and executive producer of Education Matters.
"After this pilot, we'll gather feedback from superintendents and members to assess the potential for extending the program to a long-term schedule," he said.
The show aims to foster understanding, drive transparency, and examine the future of education with collective insights.
