Q) How do I create a landing page? I.E. I need a blank template with zero styles and zero layout.
1) Create a new article. Use HTML view so you can enter html tags. You can add any styles and script tags that you want. The contents of this article get dumped directly into the body tag of the page with no other styling or layout.
2) Click 'Save & Close'
3) In the main navigation, go to 'Menus' -> 'Landing Pages' -> 'Add New Menu Item'
4) For 'Menu Item Type', select 'Single Article'.
5) In 'Menu Title', put whatever you will recognize in the list of landing pages later. I recommend the same title as the article you created in step 1.
6) For alias, enter what you want the final page name in the url to be. Eg, if you want the url people hit to be http://support.whro.org/April2013PPC you would put April2013PPC in this box. If you leave it empty, the system will create something for you based on the Menu Title you enter.
7) In the right column, for 'Select Article', pick the article you created in step 1.
8) Open the 'Article Options' (also in the right column). Change 'Show Title' to 'Hide'. You may need to change more, but for my test page, that was enough.
9) For the most important step, find 'Template Style' in the left column. From the drop down, select 'empty_whro - Default'.
10) That's it! Click 'Save & Close' and you have a landing page that you can put whatever you want on.
Q) How do I add videos (incl. YouTube) to articles?
1) Go to Article Manager 2) Click on the article you want to edit to bring up the editor 3) Click in the article's text where you want your video to appear. 4) Click the 'jwplayer' button (it's green and dark green)
Q) How do I add audio (a mp3) to articles?
1) Follow the steps for videos except for step #6. Instead of recommending that you do not change the size, you should change the height to 24 and I recommend changing the width to 320.
Q) How do I upload a file (pdf/doc/etc) and link it in an article?
First, you need to upload the file into Media Manager.
1) Select "Content -> Media Manager" from the navigation.
2) Select the folder named 'files' from the list on the left.
3) If there is an appropriate folder inside of the 'files' folder, open it. Eg, there is an 'impact' folder for Impact Statements. You can also create a folder inside the 'files' folder with the 'create folder' button.
4) Click 'Browse files'.
5) Select the file to upload from your computer. You can select more than one file to upload. 6) Click 'Start Upload'
The file is uploaded. Now we will link to it.
7) Still in the Media Manager, click on 'Detail View' above the list of folders.
8) Once again, click the 'files' item, and then click on whatever sub-folder you put your file in (if any). 9) Now you're probably going to want to make a note of the file url somewhere. What you need is the name of the folder you put your file in (if any) and the name of your file. Since we are in details view, the name of your file should be listed on the right. Put your folder name at the end of this… /images/files/ Like this… /images/files/put-your-folder-here/your-file-here For example, in this example, my url is /images/files/impact/whrofinancialstatement2012.pdf Copy that into notepad or something.
10) Go to the article you want to add this file to in Article Manager. 11) Type in and highlight what you want the text for this link to say. "Download 2012 Impact Statement" for example. 12) Once the text is highlighted, click the 'link' icon.
13) For 'Link URL', enter what you copied from step 9. For example, /images/files/impact/whrofinancialstatement2012.pdf
14) Click 'Insert' and you're done!
Q) How do I create inner article links?
1) Go to Article Manager and bring up your article to edit. 2) Click in the edit content area where you want to link to within the page. 3) Click the 'anchor' icon.
4) In the popup that appears, give this section a name. If can be any name you like, but remember what it is for a later step. The name cannot have spaces in it.
5) You will now see a little down arrow in the edit section. This is where our link will scroll down/up to.
Now to make a link to scroll to it. 6) Type and then highlight the text you want to turn into a link. 7) Click the 'link' icon. (It looks like a small piece of chain)
8) In the popup, click the dropdown beside the 'Anchors' label and choose the name you entered back in step 4. The 'Link URL' field will be automatically populated once you select an Anchor.
9) You can ignore the other fields and click the Insert button. 10) That's it. Save your article and you are good to go.
Q) How do I update the image slideshows?
1) In Admin, select Extensions -> Module Manager from the navigation.
2) In all of those filter drop downs is one labeled " - Select Position - ". Change that to 'slideshow'. Note: If you changed the position during the "I want my slideshow to not appear above the article title, but within the article itself." topic, you need to use the position you changed it to.
3) This is now showing you all of the slideshows on the site. Each page has a different slideshow. Find the page you want to change the images on and click its title. 4) In the right column, click the arrow to open up the "Image Settings 1-10" section.
5) From here you can upload new images and replace existing images. You are allowed up to ten, though for the sliders on the main pages, we recommend staying closer to five.
6) If adding a new image, make sure the "Show this image" radio button is marked as 'Yes'. 7) If you want people to be able to click the image to take them somewhere, you can put a URL into the 'Link URL' field. Make sure to mark 'Link Image?' as 'Yes' if doing so. 8) Click 'Save & Close'. 9) Go look at the slider on the website and make sure it looks how you want. Now you're done!
Q) How do I create a new slideshow?
1) In Admin, select Extensions -> Module Manager from the navigation.
2) In all of those filter drop downs is one labeled " - Select Position - ". Change that to 'slideshow'.
3) This is now showing you all of the slideshows on the site. Each page has a different slideshow. Click on any of them. 4) Without changing anything, click 'Save as Copy' at the top. This makes a copy of this slideshow so we won't affect the one your originally opened.
5) The slideshow title should now say (copy) at the end. If it doesn't, something is wrong and you're still on the original one. Close out and try again. 6) Change the title to be "Slideshow - {your page name}", substituting whatever page or section this will be appearing in. This is just so you can find it later when you want to make updates.
7) On the right side, under "General Settings", select a slider width. There are currently three options. One that is the full width of the page (like the main page slideshows), one that is smaller to fix on pages that have a left navigation, and one that is for pages with both a left nav and a rightside column. Select the one you need. 8) In the section named 'Menu Assignment' (bottom left of the page), the option 'Only on the pages selected' should be selected. If not, do so.
9) Click the 'Clear Selection' button so your slideshow doesn't appear on the wrong pages. 10) The tabbed list here is just a list of all of the menus on the site. Find the page you want this slideshow to appear on in there (probably on the Main Nav tab) and check its box. -- If your page is not in a menu (or if you can't find it), click 'Save & Close' at the top, contact Online Media, and we will help you from this point. 11) You can now upload images in the 'Image Settings 1-10' section on the right side. See "How do I update the image slideshows?" starting with Step 4 for more details. 12) Change 'Status' to 'Published' (the field is two after the title on the left side of the screen) 13) Click 'Save & Close'. 14) Go look at the slider on the website and make sure it looks how you want. If so, now you're done! If not, go back to Step 12, unpublish, save, and call Online Media. We will help you out.
Q) Slideshow: I want my slideshow to not appear above the article title, but within the article itself.
So you followed the "How do I create a new slidshow?" instructions to create a slideshow, but you don't want it to appear at the top of the screen. The rest of this assumes you already followed all of the steps for creating a slideshow. 1) In Admin, select Extensions -> Module Manager from the navigation.
2) In all of those filter drop downs is one labeled " - Select Position - ". Change that to 'slideshow'.
3) This is now showing you all of the slideshows on the site. Each page has a different slideshow. Find the page you want to change the slideshow on and click its title. 4) In the left column, find the 'Position' item. Normally, it is 'slideshow'. You want to change it to something else. What you change it to does not matter, except that it cannot be one that is already in use on the page. Something like "slideshow-npr" would work. Whatever you put in here, make a note of it. You will need it in a later step.
5) Click 'Save & Close'. 6) Go to Article Manager. 7) Click on the article that contains the slideshow you want to move. 8) Click the 'HTML' button.
9) Find the place in the article that you want the slideshow to appear and enter the following, replacing 'slideshow-npr' with whatever you entered in step 4. {+loadposition slideshow-npr} (Remove the + sign. I have to include it here so that the line shows up instead of actually showing a module. See the image below.)
10) Click 'Update'. 11) Click 'Save & Close'.
Q) How do I feature articles?
1) Go to Article Manager 2) Find the article you want in the list. 3) Click the star icon in the Featured column. That should be it.
Uhm, yeah... my article still doesn't appear. Well, there are a couple of things to check. Are you working with the 'Featured Teachers' section? Yes 4) Ok, verify that the article you are featuring is in the 'Featured Teachers' category. You can tell that from the article list page we are currently on. If not in that category, edit the article and change to that category. If that wasn't it, go to Step 5 Nope Go to Step 5 5) You might have too many articles featured. You are allowed 5 featured articles per section. To check this, click the 'Featured Articles' button near the top of the page. This shows all of the currently featured articles. If you have more than 5 in the 'Featured Teachers' category, or more than 5 in the other categories combined, you will need to 'unfeature' some article. 6) If that doesn't work, contact Online Media and we will help you figure it out.
Q) How do I insert this iframe into an article?
1) Are you comfortable fixing broken HTML? Yes Go to Step 2 No Go to Step 4 2)Really? Really really? Yes Go to Step 3 3) Use the 'toggle editor' button to get to a pure HTML editor. That may or may not strip the iframe tag. Edit away! Either you are done or you should continue to step 4 4) Call Online Media.
Q) How do I edit/add an article image?
1) Go to Article Manager 2) Click on the article you want to edit to bring up the editor 3) On the right side click on "Images and links" to expand that section.
4) In this section there are 5 places to upload images. We only care about "Full article image".
5) Click on the 'Select' button in that section to bring up the Media Manager. 6) Select or upload an image. 7) Click 'Insert' in the upper right corner. 8) Optionally, you can select something from the 'Image Float' drop down. If you aren't using a image that is the full width of the page, you can align it to the left or right by selecting an option in this drop down. When in doubt, leave it be. 9) Click 'Save & Close' 10) Go check your article on the site and see if it looks how you want.
