Originally formed in 1995, most bluegrass fans gave passing thought to the compilation of musicians who gathered in the Long View studio of Massachusetts to record an album. This concept had been tried before, especially with the creation in the 1980s of the Bluegrass Album Band with Tony Rice, JD Crowe, and a few others. However, this group of veteran performers laid down such powerful tracks that they instantly were referred to as an Americana “Super Group.” Today, Longview is regarded as one of the masterful gatherings of talent that produced a rare feat--bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Original members Marshall Wilborn, Joe Mullins, Glen Duncan and Dudley Connell established the nucleus of the group that would eventually record four albums. This Sunday, hear Longview, JD Crowe (who joined the band for their later releases), Cliff Waldron, Paul Mullins, and other bluegrass greats, on Pickin' on WHRV. Sunday night at 7:00 on 89.5 FM, or listen live online.
