One of Glenn Youngkin’s first acts as Governor was to eliminate state mask mandates for public schools.

His second executive order would also give parents the ability to opt students out of local masking policies.

Thirteen parents from Chesapeake are appealing directly to the state’s Supreme Court.

They argue the order conflicts with state laws.

A governor can’t bypass laws with an executive order.

A law passed last year says local school districts have to abide by covid mitigation strategies from the federal Centers for Disease Control for students learning in-person.

The CDC still recommends masking indoors.
