On this week’s Pickin on WHRV, we feature the hard hitting music of Red Allen. He was a key part of the D.C. bluegrass scene in the early 60s and was instrumental in the careers of the Osborne brothers, JD Crowe and Frank Wakefield. He played one of the earliest bluegrass concerts at Carnegie Hall and today is fondly remembered as a pioneer of the high lonesome sound. Red Allen is on Pickin, Sunday at 9:00 p.m. on 89.5, or listen online.
