This week, Pickin' on WHRV features the music of The Johnson Mountain Boys. First formed in 1975,they became an integral part of the thriving Washington, D.C., bluegrass music scene. Some of the members were actually still in high school at the time the band was formed. They soon were recording on the Cooper Creek Record Label and later also recorded for Rounder Records. They received widespread recognition eventually releasing 10 albums and playing prestigious venues like Madison Square Garden, the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Grand Ole Opry. Tune in to hear their distinct traditional sound and why they were recognized with Grammy nominations and awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association. Pickin on WHRV, Sunday night at 7 on 89.5 FM.
