Locals might well remember singer-songwriter Martin Swinger, who performed as a part of the duo “Mandela” in the 1970s and 80s in countless venues and festivals throughout the region. He has recorded 7 CDs and has won numerous songwriting awards from the American Song Competition. His set includes an eclectic mix of covers, Americana, swing & jazz, traditional, show tunes, klezmer, and improvisational music. He regularly performs songwriting clinics in schools and continues to tour nationally. Now a resident of Asbury Park, New Jersey, Martin often returns to Hampton Roads to see friends and fans and has appeared live on the Acoustic Highway and with Tidewater Friends of Acoustic Music.
