April gifts us with warmer weather, fanciful music and the return of our region’s premiere arts festival. Founded in 1997, Virginia Arts Festival brings superb performers from around the world to audiences in Hampton Roads. Many tremendous local performers and groups like the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Todd Rosenlieb Dance have also been featured in the Festival’s shows. The Festival has transformed our cultural life, presenting U.S. and regional premieres, commissioning new works, and educating tens of thousands of children each year.

WHRO has a long history with Virginia Arts Festival. We have served as a presenting sponsor for the Chamber Music Series and offered pre-concert lectures for years, in addition to broadcasting many Festival performances.

Along with our regular classical music programming, we are excited to expand our coverage of Virginia Arts Festival’s offerings this April and May. We will be producing extra reviews of the Festival’s shows through Opening Night, and broadcasting numerous interviews with Festival artists, including pianist Olga Kern, the new Connie & Marc Jacobson Chamber Music Series Director.

Classical announcer Raymond Jones will once again serve as the voice of the Virginia International Tattoo. We are especially looking forward to this year’s standout theme of “Courage & Commitment: A Salute to Women in the Military.”

Our region bustles with creativity and joy during April and May; we are thrilled to play a small part in promoting and making the magic happen.

See you at the Festival!
