Over the weekend WHRO hosted the 12th annual Virginian-Pilot Spelling Bee. This year 63 students competed hoping for a chance to move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. After 21/2 hours, and five rounds of competition, this year's champion emerged. Victoria Vidal is a student at Virginia Beach Middle School where she is in the eighth grade. Her winning word was "excoriate," a word she said she was unfamiliar with but was still able to spell correctly.

Congratulations, Victoria!
