On this week’s Pickin, it's another edition of Classic Country with a focus on the year 1959. Country music was in its heyday with stars like Ernest Tubb, Jim Reeves and Kitty Wells dominating the genre. The music was also evolving at the time with a fuller sound, backing vocalists and greater instrumentation. Also, some stars were beginning to see cross-over popularity with songs getting airplay on pop music stations. Some stars like Ferlin Husky, Johnny Cash and Faron Young went on to dominate in country music for decades. Others, like Stonewall Jackson saw their popularity fade as the decade came to an end. 1959 was an incredible year in Classic Country and its featured this Sunday on Pickin at 7:00 p.m. on WHRV.
