Knowledge is the best medicine. Our advice on House Calls is based on short conversation and no physical examination-not the way medicine should be practiced. We encourage you to read more about our topics by going to the library or on the Internet, then make an appointment and really talk with your doctor.

CLINICAL TRIALS 101

You might have seen the advertisements or heard about the results in the headlines, but do you know what’s involved in a clinical trial?  How are they designed and what should you ask before deciding to participate in one?  Today on House Calls, Pat talks about the ins and out of clinical trials with Barry Lubin, MD, Medical Director of the Hampton Roads Center for Clinical Research, Barbara Freund, Ph.D., former Chairman of the Institutional Review Board at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Director of the Older Driver Research Program in the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at EVMS, and Judy Perotti, Co-founder of the Research Advocacy Network.
