2007 General Assembly Election Interview Questionnaire
HearSay with Cathy Lewis ~ WHRV 89.5FM

14th District
Harry B. Blevins (R)

  1. Why do you want to be a member of the Virginia General Assembly?

My past community involvement in many civic endeavors and my
experience as an educator for 34 years gives me insight that few
others have in the General Assembly. Also, my 10 years experience in
the House (4 years) and Senate (6 years) has given me an opportunity
to build relationships of trust, cooperation and accountability with
    members.

  2. What is the most pressing issue facing Virginians today? Facing the region?

We have many pressing issues. One is the increasing number of
citizens in our state who are aging into a time in their lives where
they have chronic illnesses requiring more care and we have the
challenge of meeting a lot of needs.  Also, there is a challenge of
those with mental illness, including those with disabilities and
mentally retardation who require total care. The region faces the same
    issues.

  3. The recently enacted Abusive Driver Fees have generated intense criticism from citizens and lawmakers alike. Where do you stand on the laws and, if you oppose them, how would you replace the transportation funds they were designed to generate?

I concur with the Governor, Speaker of the House and Senate
Majority Leader who have stated that changes need to be made in the
abusive driver fees to include all drivers, regardless of the state
    where they live.

  4. What is your view on The Hampton Roads Transportation Authority formed earlier this year?

    I voted for HB3202—I did not like everything contained in the bill;
however, it was the only bill regarding transportation that was under
consideration. Some jurisdictions in our region have suggested some
changes regarding the taxes that will be imposed. Those suggestions
will be debated; however, I can't presume what the outcome will be
    from that input.
