Monday, June 2
From the Headlines: Feeling the Pinch
We'll look at the stories making headlines in Hampton Roads, including a discussion on
environmental and economic issues facing the fishing industry and the Chesapeake Bay.  State officials recently passed limits on harvesting blue crabs from coastal waters and the Chesapeake Bay in hopes of sparking an increase in the population.  Join Cathy and her guests Chris Moore - Science Advocate for Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Patrick Lynch - environmental reporter for the Daily Press, Ken Smith - vice president of the Virginia Waterman's Association, and Jack Travelstead - deputy commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission as they discuss the issue today on HearSay.

Segment A: Towering Tale
It was supposed to be part of the effort to spur downtown development in Norfolk.  Now one
year after breaking ground on the multi-million dollar Granby Tower, construction has stalled and some buyers have asked for their deposits back.  What is the future for what was once slated to be Virginia's tallest building?  We'll talk about it today on HearSay

Segment B: Something to Believe In
"This I Believe" is an international project engaging people in writing, sharing, and
discussing the core values and beliefs that guide their daily lives.  The essays air during programs on National Public Radio.  Recently, a Granby High School teacher used the concept to reach out to her students.  We'll meet some of them today on HearSay and hear their poignant essays.

Homeward Bound

More than 30 million households in the United States are faced with one or more of these
concerns: too much of the family budget is spent on housing, overcrowded conditions, or the home is not equipped with necessities such as hot water, electricity or proper plumbing. This week Habitat for Humanity, which builds housing for needy families, is on a building blitz to transform the lives of several families in Hampton Roads.  We'll discuss it today on HearSay with Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity.
