HearSay Classic
SEGMENT A: FUSING FAITH WITH POLITICS

Dr. Gregory Boyd, senior pastor of Minnesota's Woodland Hills Church caused quite a stir among his conservative flock and captured the attention of the nation with his book, "The Myth of a Christian Nation: How the Quest for Political Power is Destroying the Church."  Cathy talks with him today about why he believes the church needs to distance itself from politics and stop glorifying American military campaigns.

Segment B: FLEEING FUNDAMENTALISM
The most powerful message of Carlene Cross' memoir is neither religious nor political, but focuses on how healing is not complete without forgiveness.  The author of "Fleeing
Fundamentalism: A Minister's Wife Examines
Faith" shares her story with Cathy on today's HearSay.

THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
It can be a positive experience for some but the wrong decision for others.  According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, last year Americans spent $12.2 billion dollars on cosmetic surgery procedures, and more than a fifth of the procedures where done on people between the ages of 19 and 34.  Despite the popularity, often the perceived reasons for seeking cosmetic surgery are written off as superficial or, worse, manipulated and orchestrated. On today's HearSay, Cathy talks with plastic surgeon Dr. Loren Eskenazi, who says that such criticisms imply we are incapable of making informed, intelligent decisions about appearance.  Her new book is "More Than Skin Deep: Exploring the Real Reasons Why Women Go Under the Knife".  We'll talk about success stories, the dangers of even routine surgeries and when patients set expectations unrealistically high.  We'll also hear from Dr. David Sarwer, an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Center for Human Appearance at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He specializes in the psychological aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
